In recent times, Cannonborough has merged with its closest neighbor, Elliotborough to make one larger community. Cannonborough, once just a few blocks in size, now extends well beyond her original borders on the Historic Charleston Peninsula. This gives homebuyers a greater selection of homes and amenities. The house styles here are primarily a mixture of Charleston single, Freedman’s Cottages and more recently, new developments. The heart of the neighborhood is commonly referred to as ‘Midtown’ which can be found around Cannon and Spring Streets. Additionally, the neighborhood lies between MUSC’s expansive medical complex and all that Upper King has to offer. But, the area also boasts its own assortment of corner grocers, bakeries, flower shops and restaurants (including a U.S. top 20 Italian restaurant tapped by Travel and Leisure). Cannonborough/ Elliotborough’s borders are the Ashley River, Morris Street, Meeting Street and the Crosstown. If you’d like to find out more about Cannonborough, make sure to call me, Ulf Hartwig.
