May 2016 Folly Beach Real Estate Market and Island Update

Posted By Margaret Hartwig @ May 15th 2016 2:10pm In: Folly Beach

Welcome to the May Folly Beach Living Newsletter!
With the Festival Season on Folly over, May brings with it Beach Movie Nights, Moonlit Mixers, Reggae Nights at the Park, and fantastic Farmer's Markets (downtown Charleston and at the Folly River Park).  Also in May are Spoleto and Piccolo Spoleto- two of the Charleston area's biggest annual attractions.  What exciting precursors to the summer season.
Topics at the beach this month include preparation for the upcoming tourist season.  From weekly recycling (Wednesdays), turtle season,  heightened public safety, to hurricane preparedness, the island is gearing up.  You may find current updates from the City of Folly Beach HERE.  Another great source for local info is the Sandspur.  You may read it HERE.
A couple of fun, local happenings are the start of a Folly Family Fun series at the Folly River Park from June through August for families with children 12 years old and younger.  Weekly dates are tbd and hours will be from 5- 7 pm.  Another local tidbit is that the ospreys have hatched at the E. 5th Street cell tower.  This is the fourth year that the endangered ospreys have nested at this site.  Neighbors are "standing guard" to protect the birds.
In the real estate market, Folly continues to see a decrease year over year in real estate sales volume while the Charleston area is seeing an increase.  Both areas are seeing an increase in median sales price and a decrease in inventory.
