Folly & Hurricane Matthew
Many have asked how Folly faired through Hurricane Matthew. Mayor Tim Goodwin estimates that there were 400 people on the island during the storm. The number includes first responders and press who stayed at the Tides Hotel, which did not close. The Island operated under emergency status and had a mandatory evacuation. Following the storm, clean up ensued of debris. And, although our beach suffered much erosion and sand movement, our dunes performed the job of protecting our infrastructure. Work to rebuild them through renourishment, sand fencing, and beach planting is currently being pursued. Assessment and documentation of beach damage is underway so that a renourishment case can be made to the Corps of Engineers.
About a year ago, the City of Folly Beach completed their Beach Management Plan which describes the past and current state of the beach. It also boasts past, present, and proposed management plans. You may find it HERE. .
Folly had one incident. An East Cooper garage burned down but the fire did not spread.
Zero incidents of looting, robbery, or a singe arrest occurred.
Lee Westbury Bridge Lights
Lights on the Folly River Bridge were postponed by the storm. The plan is to have them lit by Christmas!
Sea Turtle Release
On a fun note, the SC Department of Natural Resources and the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission held the final Sea Turtle release of 2016 along with the SC Aquarium a few weeks ago. Three turtles were released at the County Park located at the western end of Folly. Two were caught by SC fishermen and the third was stung by a stingray in the Charleston Harbor. The Zucker Family Sea Turtle Recovery is slated to open May of 2017 at the SC Aquarium. It will convey the amazing journey from rescue, rehabilitation, to release.

6. The supply of listings increases substantially after the holidays. Also, in many parts of the country, new construction will continue to surge reaching new heights in 2017, which will lessen the demand for your house.
Bottom Line: Waiting until after the holidays to sell your home probably doesn't make sense.
