Welcome to the January Folly Beach Living Newsletter!
Data from the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors has shown that 2015 saw an increase in sales, drop in new listing inventory, and an increase in sales prices. Thus, 2015 has been declared the best year for real estate sales in the Charleston area since the Great Recession ended in 2009. For December, Folly Beach and Charleston continued to see year- over- year increases in sales. Economists suggest that the lack of supply combined with an increase in demand has driven up prices. Charleston and it's beaches continue to be in the spot light. Charleston is ranked No. 2 among 2016 'Hot Real Estate Markets' touts a recent article in Charleston's Post and Courier by Warren L. Wise. The article cites Trulia as the source for the rankings. For more details, read the Post and Courier's article HERE.
Also in the newspaper is an article about Folly's application for a new paddle craft boat ramp. Located only 15 minutes from downtown Charleston, Folly boasts "pristine wilderness and bottlenose dolphin encounters" for "paddlers drawn to the area's natural beauty" according to this Post and Courier article. The City of Folly Beach would like Charleston County transportation sales tax funding to build paddler launch ramps and parking. This article also mentions a new "pocket park" located on the island adjacent to the washout area and another planned at the intersection of 3rd Street West and Shadow Race Lane.
